Priscilla Gibson-Roberts

Priscilla Gibson-Roberts (also known as PGR) has been called a living treasure of the textile world. Library Journal says Priscilla has “led the current revival of techniques used by traditional fiber artisans,” and her sock-knitting has been featured in Vogue Knitting and Interweave Knits, among other places (check out the cover of Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Sock Book . . . those are Priscilla’s socks). Among her books are Simple Socks, Plain and Fancy, which presents her favorite sock-knitting techniques and Ethnic Socks and Stockings.

Ethnic Socks and Stockings (Lecture)

In this wonderful and rare lecture from Priscilla Gibson-Roberts, she’ll take you on a journey through one of the great passions of her life, the exquisitely patterned, intriguingly constructed socks of the Middle East and Eastern Europe. This collection of socks and their history has been partially documented in her book Ethnic Socks and Stockings, but this opportunity goes further and deeper into this important area and its sock history. Join us as Priscilla brings us images, her knowledge and best of all, her personal collection of mostly handspun socks, and the types of needles used to make them. Question period to follow.
