Merike Saarniit

Merike Saarniit has been teaching workshops in knitting, spinning, weaving, and dyeing for almost 20 years, and at most Stitches events since 2000.  The combination of her traditional Estonian heritage and her contemporary degree in Studio Art contribute to her unique designs and workshop presentations.

Classes

3-2-1 Roundabout

3-2-1 Roundabout presents three great stitch pattern families, worked in two colors, but just one color at a time, in the round.  As a bonus, we’ll start with a fabulous cast-on and, if that isn’t enough, we’ll finish with having a gorgeous fingerless glove.  Of course, what you’ll learn can be applied to your future socks.

Class Level:Intermediate
Class Skills:For the adventuresome intermediate knitter who is comfortable working in the round on either DPNs, 2 circs or Magic Loop.

Darn It!

Learn how to darn those existing holes, pre-darn threatened areas, and how to knit your socks to prolong their wearable life.

This class is a one hour wonder that repeats three times in each 3 hour block it is offered in.
Thursday PM: 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30.
Saturday PM: 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30.

Class Skills:Thread a darning needle.

Faux Cables and Braids for Socks

Tired of the “ring around your ankles” syndrome of most self-striping sock yarns?  Want more in vertical elements than just plain ribbing?  Here are some fun stitches that provide great vertical effects whether used by themselves or combined with other stitch patterns. Not that I don’t love classic cables, mind you - I just love take-along sock projects that don’t require taking along a cable needle or complicated cable maneuvering instructions.
