Lorilee Beltman is the owner of City Knitting, an urban neighborhood yarn shop known for it’s eclectic collection of characters we call “Yarnies”. Sometimes referred to as “Cheers” for knitters, the Grand Rapids, Michigan shop has annually received the local Townie Gold Award for best yarn shop since opening in 2005. In the shop, she most enjoys teaching and observing relationships develop between those drawn together there. Her continental knitting video on youtube.com has garnered considerable praise.
When not entangled in yarn, she enjoys the woods, coffee, napping, being on water in any non-motorized craft, and camping with her husband and three teenage boys.
Combine economy of motion with a bit of perseverance and you could be speeding up your knitting within just a couple of weeks. This method of knitting uses small motions that lead to hours of comfortable knitting. In this class, Lorilee will focus on retraining your hands for the knit stitch, while giving enough exposure to the purl stitch for you to continue on your own. Any knitter may benefit, but this is especially appealing for lefties, for crocheters wishing to learn to knit, and for those with some hand pain needing a new method.

Interesting patterning effects can be created by stranding color vertically in your knitting. During class, we will learn to prepare our yarn, read a chart, and properly manage the yarn as we work our way through two sample charts prepared for you. Lastly, you will venture out to write your own chart and begin to knit it. The design possibilities are many and can be worked easily into other knitting projects to liven up your knitting. One sock pattern will be provided by Lorilee to use with your newly acquired skills.
