Laurie Drew is a knitter and Instructional Designer in the high tech sector. She learned to knit because she needed something to counter the mechanics of technology and to relax and move her hands in different ways. An interest escalated to a need when she took a job at the University of Southern California where she worked on film shoots that specialized in “hurry up and wait.” At her day job as an Instructional Designer, Laurie teaches and writes instructions for a living, which means that her talents as a knitting teacher are very well-honed. She loves teaching sock knitting because there are so many magical “a-ha!” moments in a sock to make her students feel talented and clever.
How many socks are languishing because you’re stuck or can’t face the fix? Dig them up and bring them to class! Show up with your worst messes and leave with a sock that is back in progress (and probably some chocolate… we are very supportive and know some fixes seem scary). We’ll be picking up stitches, looking at ladders, examining wonky stitches, repairing holes, discussing how to care for socks and finding creative solutions that will fix that sock! Find out what kind of fixes YOU are most comfortable with in your work so that you are the boss of your sock knitting even after you leave class!
