Laurel Coombs

Laurel Coombs is a passionate and experienced knitter who loves the variety of techniques available inside the sphere of sock knitting.  She loves to spread the love of knitting, and wants everyone to enjoy making their socks their way.  She’s been designing for  five years, as Lobug of Lobug Designs.  Her patterns have been published in Yarn Forward Magazine as well as the Unique Sheep’s Lord of the Rings Sock club series and the Alice in Wonderland Sock Club series.  Laurel knits and designs at home in Portland with her husband and four children.

Choosing Among Choices

This is a class on sock design.  We have all these options for sock knitting: Magic Loop, dpns, 2 circ’s, toe-up, either Middle Eastern cast-on or short-row toe, cuff-down - at least 3 heel options short-row, heel flap or afterthought heel.  When do we use which technique and why?  How can we fit them to the individual knitter’s preferred method of knitting and the designs each person wants to use?  This class answers these questions and more.  Free your inner designer!

Class Skills:Knitters need to be comfortable working in the round and know basic increases and decreases.

Provisional Cast-On

Provisional Cast on is such a useful tool for your knitting arsenal.  Excellent for Short-row toe up socks (which is great for colorwork designs), as well as top down sweaters or center out scarves, this is a valuable technique to know.  This can also be a relatively simple technique that you can accomplish in a couple different ways.  This class will show you how.

This class is a one hour wonder that repeats three times in each three hour block it is offered in.
Saturday PM: 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30.
