Clara Parkes left her career in San Francisco’s booming high-tech industry to pursue her love of knitting. She now lives on the coast of Maine in a farmhouse full of fleece, fiber, and yarn, with no sheep…yet. She spends her days playing with yarn and writing about it every week in Knitter’s Review, which she founded in 2000. She is also author of The Knitter’s Book of Yarn, The Knitter’s Book of Wool, and The Knitter’s Book of Socks, and a frequent contributor to Interweave Knits and Twist Collective.

A bag of tricks for stretch and strength

Have you fallen in love with a yarn, only now to discover that it may not be the best choice for socks?  Or maybe you’ve already used the right yarns but fear saggy cuffs and thin soles?  With a little work up front, we still may be able to make your sock dreams come true.  In this workshop, you’ll learn simple but extremely effective techniques for overcoming sock yarn shortcomings and keeping your socks strong and stretchy every time.  From ribbing and increases to cuffs and toes, you’ll come away with a set of tricks you can put to good use every time you knit socks.
