This class will introduce knitters to the Bohus style of colorwork, which utilizes knit and purl stitches to create a multi-dimensional color pattern not attainable by using knit stitches alone. Students will learn the basics of two-handed stranding as well as tips for incorporating their own textured colorwork designs into a basic sock framework.
This class is taught by: Chrissy Gardiner.
| Class Level: | Intermediate to advanced |
| Class Skills: | Ability to knit in the round on two circulars/magic loop or dpns. Should be comfortable sock knitters in order for the sock design element of this class to be really useful for them. |
| Cost: | $70.00 |
| Class Length: | 3 hours |
| Class Materials: | |
Yarn: Lengths of smooth, solid, contrasting-colored yarn, in at least 3 complementary colors, ranging from light to dark. A few suggestions to get people started: cream-lavender-dark purple; white-lime green-dark brown; cream-tan-brown; light grey-blue-navy; cream-orange-brown; white-coral-burgundy. Yarn should be of same weight, preferably dk- or worsted-weight and students will need 50-100 yds of each color. Students should feel free to bring several color combinations if they’d like. Needles: Dpns, two circs or long circular depending on student’s preference in a size appropriate for their yarn. Students do not have to knit to a particular gauge for this class, although if they would like to start designing their own colorwork sock in class, they should come knowing their gauge in the round with the yarn and needles they’ll be using in class. Notions: Stitch markers, yarn needle, scissors, graph paper and pen/pencil.

No specific homework, but I would encourage students to start practicing knitting with the hand they don’t usually use. If they’re a thrower, they should try some picking and vice-versa. | |
