Stranded in Your Socks

In this introduction to stranded colorwork for socks, we will learn the basic moves for handling two strands at the same time, and what is special about the construction of stranded colorwork that’s destined for feet.  We will determine gauge by swatching in class, then begin work a stranded colorwork pattern sock top.

Class Materials:

In addition to your basic knitting notions, please bring 2 contrasting skeins of sock yarn (in the same weight) and your favorite sock needles (DPN, 2 circular, Magic Loop, etc.) to match.  Aim for a gauge in the neighborhood of 7 sts/in on size 2 (2.75mm) needles. Gauge is approximate because stranding will change it as we work.

Homework:

Determine a rough starting gauge by knitting a single-color stockinette swatch.
