Using different patterns and a beautiful sock yarn, create a one of a kind gift that tells a story to the recipient. We’ll look at several examples of socks I’ve done this with so you might find inspiration for your project. We will start with a short writing exercise, delve through stitch dictionaries and then move onto swatching and knitting towards the story idea each student has come up with. I will have several small balls of yarn available in different colors for trying out stitch patterns, but students should start thinking about a topic when they sign up for this class and bring in an appropriate yarn.

Bring needles appropriate to the yarn you are planning to use in class. Scrap yarns provided for stitch practice call for size 0-2 needles. Also, bring a calculator in case you need it for the patterns you choose for your design; pencil and paper and the knitting accessories you would normally use for knitting socks. A stitch dictionary would be very helpful. | |
