Socks for Beginners

Are you ready to knit socks? If so, this is the time and place! In this six-hour class, you will learn to knit durable, traditional, attractive, top-down socks that fit. You will gain the confidence and skills needed to size socks, select yarns, turn heels, and finish toes. Many socks will be available to help you plan future projects and to trigger your creativity. You may choose your needles—either two circulars or double pointed needles. Instruction will be given in both.

This class is taught by: Betsy McCarthy.

Class Level:Advanced beginner. This workshop is best for someone who has knit some simple projects, such as scarves and hats, and is now ready to knit socks.
Class Skills:Basic knitting skills, including casting on, knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing. Prior experience knitting in the round is helpful but not required.

Class Materials:

Needles:  You choose:  (1) 2-24” circular, US 3 (3.25 mm) needles OR (2) 1 set of 5 double pointed needles, size US 3 (3.25 mm)
Yarn: 120 yards worsted weight wool yarn (to make toddler-sized socks), in smooth, light or medium colored yarn for ease of use.
Tools:  size G crochet hook, blunt tapestry needle, retractable or cloth measuring tape, and scissors or yarn clippers.
