This is a complete sock design class that covers topics of fit and sizing, working stitch patterns into a design, making appropriate design choices for the sock architecture, tips and tricks for achieving desired results, making a marriage of elements, charting, and pattern writing. Students will draft a sock pattern using a small knit/purl stitch of their choice.

| Class Skills: | Students must be experienced sock knitters skilled in working on multiple needles (DPNs, 2 circs, etc), pattern reading, increasing, decreasing, various heel formats, be able to execute kitchener stitch without assistance, and must enjoy math. Students should have completed several sock projects requiring at least an intermediate level of knitting skill and pattern reading. |

Students will need paper, pen, calculator, graph paper, stitch markers, one skein of sock yarn for project work, sock needles appropriate for yarn of choice. Please bring a kit of the usual knitting tools and a selection of needles. Additionally, students should bring a book of stitch patterns, and have 3 to 4 stitch patterns marked as possibilities. | |

Students should choose several stitch patterns for possible use in their design and work swatches both in pattern and in stockinette with the project yarn to determine appropriate needle size. | |
