Barbara Walker became a knitter at the relatively advanced age of thirty-five and within two years published the most complete compendium of stitch patterns yet seen in the United States. Three more “Treasuries of Knitting Patterns” followed, including two featuring her own original method of charting directions, and never-before-seen patterns of her own creation. Then she published “Knitting from the Top,” “Mosaic Knitting,” and “Barbara Walker’s Learn-To-Knit Afghan Book.” In addition to designing for yarn companies, over the course of fifteen years she has created more than 300 garments, fifty afghans, wall hangings, bedspreads, etc., plus one-of-a-kind fantasy garments for her collection of over 400 fashion dolls, and all the swatches for her books.
