Holes in our Socks

A beginning lace class for intermediate knitters who want to incorporate lace into their sock projects.  Anne will teach tools and techniques for successful lace knitting, different types of lace stitches, lace terminology, opposing decreases for shaping, working with lace motifs in the round, and an explanation of simple architectural and pictorial shapes in lace.  Students will begin a simple lace sock project.

Class Skills:Students must have completed several sock projects, have a full understanding of increasing and decreasing, read patterns with ease, and be able to execute kichener stitch without assistance.

Class Length:3 hours
Class Materials:

300 yards of sock yarn. Needles size 4-5US/ 3.5-3.75mm for class work, stitch markers, notepad, dental floss or fine cotton yarn (for lifelines) Please bring a kit of the usual knitting tools and a selection of needles. We will aim for some time toward the end of class to work on an actual sock; students may bring lace sock in progress or may begin a simple lace sock in class. Please purchase pattern and yarn ahead; look for a simple, allover lace design with uncomplicated construction.

Homework:

If a student plans to work on a lace sock in class, it will be a good idea to complete any cuff ribbing (or toe shaping) ahead of time so we can concentrate on lace work during the session.
