Global Color: A Survey of Natural Dyeing

Discover natural dyeing and its wide world of color.  Throughout time, the craft of natural dyeing has been created and upheld by cultures around the world, from South America to India.  Now is your chance to become part of the tradition.  Explore which types of plants you can grow in your own backyard that can be used in the dyeing process.  Learn about plant and insect dyestuffs from other parts of the world which give magnificent color.  She will even touch upon mushrooms and how they are used in the dyepot!  We will discuss the dyes, where and how they are grown, how they are processed into usable dye, and finally how to use these dyes to create naturally dyed yarn of your very own.  Kristine will have a wide spectrum of colors, and the dyestuffs used to create them, available to peruse in class.  She will describe her process and take you around the world through the combination of the camera lens and power point.
