Short row toes (for the no-graft sock) and Sideways Garter Stitch bands for no-swatch sock sizing.

Smooth wool-blend yarns (these need not be ‘sock’ yarns) in Worsted or DK/Sport (4-5 sts per inch) in 2 or more plain light colours. We will be working samples not a sock. Fine sock yarns and needles may be used, but is far easier to see the details of your stitches and techniques in larger yarns and plain, light colours. 3 sets of dpns; two in sizes appropriate to your yarn (they need not be the same size) and one set approximately 3 sizes larger (Example for 4.5mm/US#7 select 6mm/US#10). If you prefer working on circular needles (one or two) bring a selection. Scissors. Crochet hook. Blunt darning needles. Usual knitting tackle. In contrasting colour, similar weight yarn (to main yarn), cast on 8 sts. Work 6 rows of Stocking Stitch, end on completion of a purl row. Cut off yarn and tie on main yarn (do not weave in tails). Work 6 - 8” length in Garter Stitch in main yarn. (Knit every row.) Leave 1m/yd of yarn attached and stitches on a holder or needle. | |
