A sock knit from the top. An opportunity to play with small, mirror-image color patterns that taper to the ankle and use increases and decreases to form the foot. The toe curls up like a jester’s boot.

Gauge: 5.5 to 6 sts to 1 inch, depending upon wanted circumference. Using MC, cast on 60 sts. Join and work K1, P1 Ribbing for 15 rounds. Establish “seam” line in first 3 sts and work pattern of your choice on rest of sts. You may work the 3 seam sts in either MC or CC, then repeat the 6-st pattern 11 times, then work the first st of the pattern repeat. You are now back at the beginning marker. Use any small repeating pattern. Here are three; the two on the left have a diagonal line and, thus, may be mirror-imaged fore and aft. Patt on right is the 6-st motif referred to above. Work straight for a total of 7”.
Calf Shaping: Decrease 1 st each side of “seam” sts every 4th round a total of 6 times - 58 sts remain. Work with no shaping to ankle (about 16” from CO edge). Come to class ready to shape the heel. | |
