How can you make your socks last longer? NEWS FLASH - We all don’t wear out our socks at the back of the heel first. This class will have you thinking seriously about feet and wear and the best strategies for knitting socks that will last. In this class, we discuss how to make more durable knit fabric at the specific places where your socks wear first.

This class is taught by: Charlene Schurch.

Class Level:Intermediate
Class Skills:Students should have basic sock knitting skills and the ability to know when to use a correct needle size no matter what the ball band says.

Class Length:3 hours
Class Materials:

Yarn: 1 oz/25g sock yarn (this should be what you normally like to use, fingering or sport). 
Needles:  The size you normally use for knitting socks, plus needles that are smaller than what you normally use. Eg, if you normally knit with size US 2 needles, bring size 1 AND size 0. Bring 4 if you use double points, or circulars if that is what you are comfortable with.
Notions - stitch markers, pencil or pen.

Homework:

With your sock yarn cast on 26 sts.
Work 6 rows of garter stitch - knit each row.

Row 1: K3, place marker, K20, place marker, K3.
Row 2: K3, slip marker (SM), P20, SM, K3.
Row 3: K3, SM, knit to marker, SM, K3.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until your swatch measures 2” of stockinette - DO NOT BIND OFF.
