An Introduction to the Wild, Wacky (and Disciplined) Realm of Publishing
Today’s opportunities for publishing knitting designs are more varied than ever. That’s great in terms of opportunities, but the array of possibilities is almost bewilderingly complex. Instead of a relatively small number of people wanting to place their designs through a relatively small number of publication outlets, as was the case not long ago, there are now almost limitless channels competing for the designer’s work and audience attention.Single designs or books? Print or electronic? Established publisher (small? large?) or self-publication? What about contracts and rights? If you want to publish your work, you’ll need to decide which path is right for you. This class will give you a map of the territory, a list of the vocabulary and skills you’ll need, and an introduction to the tools for success. If you’re just curious about the publication process, this class will provide you with an understanding of what both designers and publishers go through to share their ideas with you. You’ll leave with a new appreciation for the treasure that is a good published knitting pattern.
