Commercial Self-Striping Yarns

Yarn manufacturers have outdone themselves creating sock yarn dyed to make colorful stripes.  In this class we will explore a variety of ways to use these yarns.  You’ll learn to predict what a particular yarn will do so you can control your results.  You’ll try easy stitch patterns that turn the stripes into waves, zig zags, and tilted boxes.  You’ll even see how to turn the stripes on their side.  You’ll also learn how to avoid common problems with self-striping yarns.

Class Skills:Students should be able to cast on, knit, purl, and work in the round on whatever needle style they prefer.

Class Materials:

Each student should bring a skein of self-striping yarn in sock or DK weight and needles of an appropriate size for the yarn – a set of 4 double points, 2 circular needles or 1 long circular needle for Magic Loop – knitter’s choice.
