What’s a cable that goes above and beyond intricacy and beauty? Austrian traveling twisted stitches wind and twist around each other in complicated and intricate designs, but actually are done using only two basic techniques without the use of a cable needle. We will sample some of the 174 charming patterns from Maria Erlbacher’s book, “Strickmuster”, and learn how to read the unique and logical charts. These patterns lend themselves perfectly to socks.
| Class Level: | Advanced |
| Class Skills: | Students must be comfortable knitting in the round using double pointed needles, or 2 circulars, or magic loop. Please note: I teach this method in the conventional manner (ie: taking the stitches off the left-hand needle and transferring them to the right-hand needle). If you are a true left-handed knitter who takes the stitches off the right-hand needle and transfers them to the left-hand needle, you will have to re-engineer everything to accommodate your method of knitting. |

About 2 ounces of smooth textured, light-colored wool yarn in worsted weight. Please note: yarns with nubs, slubs, fuzz, or thick and thin is not appropriate, nor will variegated yarns show the pattern well—some good brands are Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride, Cascade 220) and appropriately sized double pointed needles (American size 6, 7, 8, or 9), about one dozen stitch markers. (Feel free to bring two circulars or one long one for magic loop, if that is what you are familiar with.) Having the correct yarn to learn with is very important! | |
