Argyle socks are classic and have a timeless appeal—especially for men. They have a unique construction, because they are most efficiently knit flat using the intarsia technique, and then joined and knit in the round following the gussets. This class will have samples, charts and instructions for all sizes, from baby socks to adult male, and will show how to modernize the Argyle using new yarns and fun color combinations. Students will learn to do intarsia technique, read a color chart, work duplicate stitch, invisible seaming, how to knit a gusset heel flat, various ways to knit and close a toe, and how to weave in ends efficiently.
| Class Level: | Intermediate |
| Class Skills: | Students should be comfortable working with more than one color at a time. Previous experience with intarsia will be very helpful. |

Yarn: Stash of smooth sock yarns. I recommend solid colors with as much contrast between colors as possible and of equal weight. It is easier to see your joins and the development of the pattern if there is a big contrast of color at the join. So choose a light color to be next to a dark color, etc. Suggested yarns: Shibui Sock, KnitPicks Essential, JaWool, SoxAppeal Solid, Simply Sock Yarn Solid, Valley Yarns Huntington. Knitting needles : dpn’s, straights and or circular needles in desired sizes. You will be knitting both flat and circularly. I recommend sizes 2.25mm (1 US), to 3.25mm (3 US). Notions: sharp tapestry needles for weaving in ends, scissors, post-it notes for following charts. | |
