This workshop is geared towards intermediate to advanced sock knitters who are interested in designing sock patterns that veer off the conventional grid. We will cover techniques related to creating off-the-grid patterns including: working on a diagonal, creating curves, creating your own cable patterns, handling intersecting components, and shaping in lace and cables. Students will be able to fill in one of several construction templates for off-the-grid design using their own chosen stitch patterns OR they may design an entirely new and original sock pattern.

Yarn and appropriately sized needles for working in the round - dpns, 2 circs, magic loop, whatever you are comfortable with. Advanced / faster knitters may bring fingering weight yarn and begin work on their sock in class. Intermediate knitters should bring worsted weight yarn to practice the concepts in class and plan their sock design to knit later. If you are unsure, bring both weights of yarn. All students should also bring stitch markers, graph paper, pencil and eraser. | |
